Place: Ar/Ge.T31.10

After taking down the SE corner 10 cm with shovels (while screening), as we approached the NE corner, we hit a small patch of virgin (orange) clay, near an antler base and a rock sitting at about the same level. In the NE corner of the trench, we found a small pit (Locus 11) with a portion of a wooden artifact inside.

The soil in Locus 10 is increasingly mottled, with tan, dark brown, medium brown, and black areas. There are also concentrations of charcoal and black staining, which while not clearly beams, are large enough to include on the plan. The compactness of the matrix varies between the different lenses. There is also clear evidence for rodent activity in this locus. In the NE corner, there is a small, round piece of charcoal, which looks like a small posthole, but the grain of the wood runs horizontally and not vertically. I took this piece of charcoal as a sample for radiocarbon dating (Ar/Ge.T31.10.C14.01).

A small, rounded tuff polishing stone (Ar/Ge.T31.10.L.01) at a depth of 2284.44 masl.
A piece of worked antler (Ar/Ge.T31.10.B.01) found near the NE corner of the locus.
In the NW corner, we found a piece of groundstone (Ar/Ge.T31.10.L.02) at 2284.35 masl.
