Place: Ar/Ge.T31.49

This locus started as a 1m x 1m probe in the LB floor in the SE corner. This probe reached bedrock, at depth varying from 5-12 cm. This locus was then extend to encompass the southern half of the LB floor area. This locus comprises material from two floors lying under the floor which was at the bottom of Locus 31.
The clay itself is very mottled in color (light tan, orange, medium brown, black) and there is the occasional bone, sherd, or piece of charcoal. The floor prep is better preserved on the northern side of the locus. There was a portion of a burned beam (Locus 51) in the floor clay. I took one of the large pieces of charcoal from the SW corner for a C14 sample (Ar/Ge.T31.49.C14.01). This piece was ~2 cm above the bedrock.

It is unclear whether the rocks along the southern wall of the trench are covering a pit (pits?), and given the limited time, that will have to remain unexplored. The possible pits are marked on the plan.

In Locus 49, there is another large mortar (Ar/Ge.T31.49.L.01) sitting on the floor prep near the SW corner of the LB floor, at 2283.69 masl. This mortar may be sitting on the same surface as the mortar from Locus 31. Just next to the mortar, we found a part of a groundstone (Ar/Ge.T31.49.L.02) at 2283.68 masl. Also next to the mortar was a small pebble (Ar/Ge.T31.49.L.03) which appears to have been worked, at 2283.71 masl.

We found a piece of worked bone (Ar/Ge.T31.49.B.01) near the center of the locus at 2283.73 masl. We found a bone tool (Ar/Ge.T31.49.B.02) in the western part of the locus, at 2283.78 masl. We found another piece of groundstone (Ar/Ge.T31.49.L.04) in the SW corner at 2293.71 masl. We found a spindle whorl (Ar/Ge.T31.49.B.03) in the SW corner at 2283.75 masl. We found another bone tool (Ar/Ge.T31.49.B.04) nearby at 2283.80 masl. The bone tools appear to have been sitting on the middle floor, where as the piece of worked bone appears to be from the lower floor.
