This is the soil under the rocks covering the kurgan in the SW quadrant. The soil in this locus is a dark brown silty clay loam, with very low material densities.

As we came down, we occasionally found pieces of decaying white chalkstone. Just below the level of the large stones in the center of the quadrant, there is a layer of clay that extends approximately 30-40 cm out from the rocks. The clay layer around the stones is quite visible in the E-W section of the quadrant.

As we were cleaning and leveling the SW quadrant, there were patches of white on the surface (possible from clay or decayed chalkstone?).
