This locus was created to level down the trench to find the clay like soil. the soil was mostly medium brown and silty, but we found the clay like soil about 1/2 a shovel down. This locus is located next to Locus 19 in the SW and locus 20 in the NW. It is south of Locus 15 and includes where locus 17 was (the ramp).Originally, we did not want to extend this locus to the wall, but I decided based on the appearance of the clay like soil that I thought might be an indication of the ground to keep all the way to the wall. Within this locus is a feature. The feature is a group of stones in a semi circle starting along the SE wall and ending at the balk. Perhaps the semi circle goes into the balk? There are 9 stones making up the semi-circle. Within the feature I took 2 bags of soil samples. I found a lot of charcoal and ash inside the feature. The soil was a very packed clay like soil. I troweled within the feature and although I believe I was digging through cultural deposit, because I took the soil sample, I felt confident troweling and cleaning the feature up. Everything within this locus was screened. I designated it as a stratum 3 locus based on the feature and the material.I found shells along the SE wall of locus 18. They ended up being natural. I found a large enough piece of charcoal in this locus and took it as a radiocarbon sample
