This locus was created to further excavate the stone that is along the NE wall and looks like an upright ground stone. I created this locus so I could have a worker clean and screen the soil around the stones creating this \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\"feature\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\" I am not sure what this feature is. It seems very deliberate and is on the floor level. This locus is bordered by the NE wall, locus 15, locus 8, locus 10. The soil is clay light/medium brown. No charcoal, soil samples or small finds in this locus.
Addendum by EF: This feature is most definitely a hearth, similar to Locus 12. It is lined on three sides by rocks, including the one mentioned above, although most are smaller. It had a somewhat circular pit dug into the bedrock in its eastern half, so the bottom measurement is taken from inside that pit. The elevation inside the hearth but above the pit was 2144.319 mASL. Huge amounts of charcoal, in fact almost an entire burned layer, were excavated, and a burned beam (Ar/Ts.WSS2.26) was removed for possible dendrochronological analysis. Also sampled soil for MB analysis.
