Remarks

Locus 27 consists of a single primary burial in the southern half of Locus 18 (just to the south of the small wall). The skeleton is articulated and is in a flexed position with knees flexed. The arms are folded with the hands more or less to the face (the right hand is up and out from the skull, with the right humerus running underneath the skull, and the finger are folded, the left hand is in the V formed by the humerus and the radius-ulna of the of the right arm). The head is looking straight forward and the maxilla is crushed. The body was deposited on the right side in a roughly square chamber along the northern edge (which is defined by a small wall). The body is oriented E-W. There was a necklace of red carnelian beads (Ar/Ge.K2.110) around the neck (some of the beads were found between the radius and ulna of the left arm). There was a large white chalk stone on top of the knees of the body, possibly intentionally (as the bronze belt went both over and under the stone).

Along with the body, we found 4 Early Iron Age vessels (Loci 28, 29, 30, 31), another set of carnelian beads (Ar/Ge.K2.18.L.01), an articulated set of sheep/goat lower legs (locus 36), a bronze belt (Ar/Ge.K2.18.M.01), dagger (Ar/Ge.K2.18.M.02), and pin (Ar/Ge.K2.18.M.04), and large animal skull (likely cow). The body seems to be very well preserved, with all the bones articulated and the bones do not seem to be very friable. The matrix around them is a medium brown clay loam. The soil from around the body was screened with a U.S. No. 18 sieved, but the skeleton was left in-situ for the next season, with the exception of some phalanges which were dislodged during exposure. Soil samples were taken from near the mandible and from the NE corner of the chamber. No soil sample has been taken from the femur (that could be done next year).

The bones from this locus are being stored in the garage at Durik\\\'s.
