At the bottom of locus 2 we came upon a floor of packed mottled clay. This thin layer was set atop a thick hard packed layer of substrate black soil/eroded rock that is the local bedrock. We removed the thin floor and the substrate together as locus 3. Material densities on the floor itself were light, dropping to zero in the sterile substrate bedrock. The boundaries of the locus on the south were set by a stone wall of medium unworked blocks that ran roughly east-west through the trench. The wall (locus 5) was set in a builders trench (locus 4) dug into locus 3.
