A narrow builders trench dug into locus 3 as a foundation for the stone wall of locus 5. Matrix is a grey/buff granular clay that is clearly differentiable from black soil of locus 3. We were able to document the locus only on the north side of the wall as there was not room in the operation to excavate the northern face of the wall. Matrix was completely sterile.
