This locus was characterized by a dark brown/ grey ashy matrix. Once exposed to the open air the brown sediment turned into lenses of this loose grey material. The dark brown, however, was homogenous (fine grained, well-sorted, few to no inclusions) and consistent throughout the unit. While I first suspected that this was another clay-like matrix, the soil was not adhesive. The last meter of the locus was entirely sterile.
