Remarks

This unit, which originally began as a 1x1m operation known as T37J, grew considerably over the course of the 2016 season. What was a 4x4 meter trench eventually became a 12x9m undertaking. Locus 1 refers to the topsoil found throughout the entire this unit. The topsoil was consistent; it was characterized by a dark brown somewhat loose sediment that contained a small number of angular stones (5-10 cm in size) and little cultural material. The only discrepancy among topsoil deposits was the depth. Given the hillside (E/W sloped) position of the unit, topsoil was slightly deeper on the eastern side of the trench. Elevations for this locus were taken with the theodolite (corners) and bottom depth was (originally) taken from Datum 1, a rock in the northern baulk. Bottom depths: NE corner .48m , SE corner .32m, NW corner .63m, SW corner .76m.
