Place: Ar/Ge.T38.14

Locus 14 is the fill that contained the terrace wall (locus 15) running north to south in the easternmost region of T38. This sediment consists of bedrock (tan granular well-sorted matrix that was devoid of cultural materials) in the eastern half and a greyish brown moderately sorted sediment in the western half (as evidenced by attached photo). Cultural materials have only been found to the west. We classified this as a singular matrix because it was uniformly excavated to expose and articulate the faces of the large 20-40cm stones organized in a linear fashion (the terracing wall known as locus 15). Given the existence of bedrock to the east it seems likely that the people of the Early Bronze Age cut into or even more likely built right up against bedrock when they were constructing the terrace wall. This explains why cultural materials were only found on the western side of the wall -- including Ar/Ge.T38.14.L.01 (a red obsidian arrowhead).
