Designated MAE1733--radiographed, XRF
A fragment from a small LB pot, or perhaps a bowl. If it is a pot, then only the rim and neck are present, above a sharp shoulder. If a bowl, this sherd represents a rim-to-body portion. The decorative schema consists of a register of comb-applied wavy lines (3) applied to the “neck” or upper shoulder between single circumferential incised line placed both superiorly and inferiorly. The incised lines both measure 0.152 cm in width. The wavy comb lines average 0.08 cm in width and are spaced a similar distance apart. The exterior appears to have been highly polished at some point, with significant amounts of it now abraded off, particularly between each comb incision. The spaces between each line feature a line of missing circumferential polish/slip. Dense circumferential rotational striations are visible on the interior and exterior surfaces. Large amounts of light gray dendritic corrosion cover approx. 30% of the interior surface. In addition to the coarse sand, significant frequencies of fine and medium sand are visible in the fabric. The internal and external surfaces are moderately covered in pyrite pops. Breaks are rough.
