Designated MAE1745--radiographed, XRF
A sizable fragment from a medium sized LM bowl, almost a complete profile save the base. The rim is preserved only over half of the total sherd width (approx. 2.6 cm), making the 20 cm diameter a best estimate. Both surfaces are highly abraded, but it is clear that the exterior was originally polished all over and the interior significantly polished (at the least). The exterior is rather “lumpy,” with several textural sub-regions. Not clear if this is the result of production practices or a post-depositional development. The exterior surface, particularly the shoulder portion, is predominantly Light Red 2.5YR 3/4, not the stated Dark Reddish Brown, 2.5YR 6/6, which is present mainly on the body portion. The exterior surface features significant amounts of light gray concretion, obscuring tall of the lower right portion. The interior is also 30% covered. In addition to the medium sand, significant frequencies of fine, coarse, and very coarse sand (and perhaps grit) are visible in the fabric. Moderate frequencies of inclusions perforate all surfaces. Breaks are rough.
