This is a sampling of the vast quantities of charcoal found throughout the matrix of locus 3 of Trench 22. The charcoal was found at different levels, in different quantities, and different places, but there was so much of it in the fairly-uniform soil matrix (which is a lighter brown and more clayey than the wash above it was) that we sampled it. Its context may not be terribly good, however.
