Metal: Ar/Ge.T38.06.M.01

This early bronze age ring was discovered in T38 locus 6. Unfortunately it was not found horizontally resting on a floor, but rather was discovered in a vertical position surrounded only by soil. The ring is spiral in shape, comparable to many known bracelets that date to the Kura-Araxes EB cultural horizon. It is particularly interesting because most Kura-Araxes jewelry has been uncovered in burial rather than domestic contexts. This ring is one of about twenty that have been discovered to date making it a particularly remarkable find. Its presence in what appears to be a domestic unit indicates that this could have traces of an in tact context -- more than alluvial flow of materials from the units atop the citadel. Moreover, it seems possible and perhaps likely that we are encroaching in situ contexts worthy of investigation. With respect to the ring's morphology, at its widest position where the spiral wraps around the ring is 7.83 in width, at its narrowest it is 3.55. The ring is quite heavy perhaps suggesting that a material other than bronze (i.e. silver) has been included in its composition. We will investigate the composition of the find further with pXRF analysis.
