Place: Ar/Ge.T38.06

Locus 6 was located directly under the topsoil in the northern and eastern extents of T38. It encompasses the layer under the topsoil in all expansions after the 4x4m unit. It is comparable to Locus 2 in elevation, but is spatially differentiated specifically because of the remarkably high density of cultural materials in this area including Ar/Ge.T38.06.M.1, Ar/Ge.T38.06.L.1, and Ar/Ge.T38.L.2). The locus was very dark brown (almost black) in color and had a clay like feel to it. It contained some (albeit not many) loose stones and had a compact but granular appearance. The sediment was dense but surprisingly easy to shovel through. Bottom depth was determined based on the presence of architecture and a change in soil composition. With the increased presence of architecture, frequency of ceramic materials, and appearance of special finds this locus we began excavating this locus with trowels only and sieving select areas. Elevations for this locus were taken primarily from datum one.
