This andiron fragment is incredibly flat and rectilinear in contrast to the other fragments uncovered in T38. This appears to be our most convincing example of part of an andiron of the tabletop form. Given the broken nature it is difficult to determine exactly where on the overall object this piece was derived from. This fragment is comprised of two pieces that form a perfect join. On part of this object we have evidence of a corner piece which has edges on two sides. The fabric of the clay is incredibly coarse and heavily tempered. The fragment itself is incredibly heavy. The fragment is predominately light reddish brown in color. It is also black particular at its rectangular edge, which is likely due to wear and/or firing activities during and/or after its construction. N.B. The weight of the fragment exceed that of our in field scale.
