Remarks

This andiron fragment could have been part of a leg or an end depending on the type andiron it was derived from. The morphology of the fragment is such that it seems to have a thinner edge (with three more or less complete sides) and then it widens out (where it is fractured). Given that the object is broken in multiple places it is incredibly difficult to discern if this piece formed a functional or decorate (or both) purpose. The ceramic artifact is a beige/ pale red color and appears to be evenly fired, although the profile of the fragment (as revealed by the break is more of a reddish gray. No tempers are overtly visible in the clay matrix. The object is a light grayish brown in color.
