Place: Ar/Ge.T44.14

This context, situated in the southeast corner of the presumed room interior, was opened when it became apparent from the profile created from the excavation of locus 13 that locus 3 was not a floor deposit. There was no trace of the tan matrix in the section, and the emergence of a second course of the locus 6 wall likewise suggested that a cultural surface in this operation is going to be at a greater depth than locus 3. Indeed, once excavation commenced and we got below the highly dried out and compacted surface, the matrix appeared much the same as that of locus 13--a sandy dark grayish brown silt. The locus was opened after consultation with Ruben. We decided to shovel about half of the depth to locus 13 to see if a matrix differentiation reemerged. As of the end of the day on July 13, the locus was not yet closed because no soil change has been observed.
