This locus constitutes an area of darker, loamier soil running along the SE baulk in room WSAD and abutting the paved stone floor in this room, Locus 29. This area of soil is not the same hardpacked clay as the cultural layer seen in the northern and eastern areas of the operation, but is more of a continuation of the darker overburden matrix that has leaked down, directly on top of the paved floor. In the course of excavating this locus on 8/9/10, another line of flat paving stones appeared, suggesting a relationship with Locus 29. This matrix therefore sits directly on top of a potential stratum 3 floor. The matrix is not as loamy as the overburden, and contained a fair amount of specks of charcoal. The locus started in the western corner, but was expanded once the stones began appearing. The elevation and measurements are therefore from the western corner, see notebook for sketch.
Locus closed 8/11/10, after bringing down elevation to what appears to be a floor level, with a number of different colored clays, mottled organic areas, and charcoal stained areas. See notebook for sketch, bottom el. given is roughly halfway up SE baulk.
