This andiron fragment (which is comprised of two perfectly joined pieces) was likely part of an andiron of the tabular form based on its size and breadth. The shape of the fragment is such that it likely could have been a leg of one of these objects. We have traces of faces or surface on four of six sides -- one of which could have been the bottom of a foot (or stand). The object is composed of an incredibly coarse clay fabric. It is heavily tempered. Overall the fragment has a very heavy feel to it. It is reddish brown in color with some dark gray patches, which could either be a sign of post-depositional ware or pre-depositional use. N.B. the weight of the object exceed's that of our in-field scale.
