Place: Ar/Ge.T38.07

This locus is characterized by a dark brown, fine-grained sediment. Directly underlying locus 6 in the central and western part of the operation, this context is spatially defined as the area west of wall (locus) 9. It runs through almost the entire western half of the unit in a curvilinear form enclosed by wall 9. Given the configuration of the architecture, this context takes a circular form. Originally I believed that it constituted an interior space and that the walls (which gave its form) had either eroded out or had not yet been exposed. This, however, did not appear to be the case upon further excavations. There is no conclusive proof or reason to believe that this was a circular room. In addition to the lack of continuous walls, the diameter of what we have is too large to be domestic building. The floor of this context did, however, offer us an in situ level that was covered with pottery scatters. While there is a mix of EBI and EBII, this is the only part of the trench that seems to house predominately EBI ceramics. Upon completing our operation we excavated the context to bedrock (discernible through the tan granular sediment), which was just below the floor level. In certain areas of the locus we have what appear to be traces of a surface. Given the considerable size of this unit we took multiple top elevations from Datum 1 located in the center of the trench (-.12m. -.19m, and .29m).
